Understanding Pain
- 01Myoskeletal work is less about relaxation and more about understanding why your body is creating discomfort. Rather than simply working on tight muscles, I assess how different parts of your body are interacting—your posture, movement patterns, joint mobility, and muscular relationships. The goal isn't just to reduce tension for an hour; it's to help your body move with less effort and discomfort.
- 02Sometimes parts of the work can be intense, but it should feel productive rather than overwhelming.I work with your nervous system, not against it. If your body feels threatened, it tends to protect itself by increasing tension. My goal is to apply enough pressure and movement to encourage change while keeping your body relaxed enough to receive it.Good bodywork isn't about seeing how much discomfort someone can tolerate.
- 03It depends on what you're dealing with. Some people notice meaningful improvement after one or two sessions, particularly if the problem is relatively recent. More persistent issues often improve gradually over several treatments as your body adapts to moving differently. My goal is not to create dependency but to help you become more comfortable, resilient, and confident in your own body.
- 04Many people feel lighter, move more easily, or notice that familiar movements require less effort. Some experience mild soreness for a day or two, similar to beginning a new exercise program. Occasionally, changes continue to unfold over several days as your nervous system adapts.I may also recommend a few simple movements or awareness practices to reinforce the work between sessions.
